Don't think I'm going to be using DA moving on, if that wasn't already obvious.

If you care to follow my art you can find me elsewhere on the internet @Asheaterart - Twitter and Facebook right now.

Moving Forward

I know I have a bad habit of making updates to this journal promising to be more active and not actually following through with any of that. This one's going to be different, and here's why - I'm not going to make any promises to be more active here. In fact, moving forward, I won't likely be checking this account very often.

While I do like the layout of dA, and the plethora of features that it offers, something about this site and I just don't seem to agree. I find it hard to feel engaged here, I guess. I know there are plenty of groups and the like, but I honestly just don't have the time to dedicate to it to feel more involved. Between work, class, being newly wed, working on personal projects, and all the biological upkeep involved in keeping one's self alive I simply don't have much available time.

That said, I'll keep this account open and might update it occasionally, but don't expect this to become very active any time in the near future.

It's not all bad news, though. I'll be fairly active over on Tumblr - I just feel a lot more engaged there, so I'll be updating there a lot more often, so if you follow me on Tumblr you can expect to see a little more of me I suppose. The better news is that a good friend and I have finally gotten around to working on developing games together, so there's that to look forward to as well. If you do follow me on Tumblr, expect to see plenty of character/enemy designs and probably a good handful of interface art aspects.

My Tumblr - Nyarls
GoldBeard Studios Tumblr - GoldBeard Studios  (Literally nothing there at the time of this posting, but it will eventually host updates on our projects and any promotional/conceptual art I make for the projects we're working on.)

I know I've said it before, but I really have been neglecting this account for too long now. So, I'm wanting to turn that around and bring this back to a fairly active state. I've been busy with life, mostly...I'm married now, I'm nearly finished with my second year of college (being a non-traditional student kind of sucks, as it leaves very little time for hobbies and art compared to the more common route, but hey...education's important, folks!), and I've been able to reconnect with my best friend after a long time of not seeing eachother.

That last one's what's most relevant here: We've known eachother since we were wee little lads with bright eyes who looked at the world with the optimism only youth can muster. We've always wanted to work on video games, and dammit if we're not still trying. We've got a few things planned that I'm very excited to be working on, and I'll definitely be posting up some of the concept work and possibly some of the production work here in the near future, but I've got an itch that only art can scratch and pre-production isn't really requiring a -ton- of output just yet, so I'd like to solve that problem.

I would really love to open commissions, but I fear that once production -does- pick up on our projects, I won't really have the time to dedicate to that, so I might be running some contests in the near-ish future.

EDIT: Also, totally down for art trades, folks.

Looks like this is the first time I've made a journal entry here. Huh, you'd think I'd have done that at -some- point what with this account being so many years old. So, uh...hi, everybody! On to what's important here:

I'm going to be clearing out some of the older work here in my gallery. Some of it's just plain not up to snuff with what I feel comfortable presenting myself as to other people. A few things in there just lack effort and really aren't all that great. So, if something of mine disappears on you, you know why. I don't imagine too many people will be effected though, can't really say there's much in there as it is right now anyway.

The other thing, which is far more exciting:

I have a project I've been working on for some time now - Legends of Drakis (a working title, subject to change). It all started so many years ago - I must've been maybe 13 or so...whenever .Hack//SIGN first aired in the states. A friend and I were inspired by that and some other works to get into game design. We became enamored with the possibilities of the MMO genre, but life had other plans and we haven't exactly gotten anywhere with that.
However, I did get real into worldbuilding - something that being introduced to tabletop gaming really facilitated. I continued to work on the world we set out to design all that time ago and it has definitely come a long way from our initial 'let's make an MMO, it'll be great!'

I kicked that idea around quite a bit in my head, and I've recently (read: maybe a year or two ago) started working on it as a tabletop rpg. I've become quite experienced with tabletop games - both running them and playing them - and have really found the direction I feel this project needs to go in. I have some plans to get a Kickstarter campaign going once it's ready for production, but that's quite a bit off.

In the mean time, I plan on making a webcomic to showcase the setting for the game I've been working on all this time. I feel like I have something people could really like here, it's just a matter of getting it down on paper or getting it down on...whatever the internet is made of, electricity?

So, for those who are interested in what I'm saying, but can't be arsed to read three paragraphs: tl;dr: Cleaning old things out of the gallery, expect some fantasy-themed art and possibly a comic in the future.
